Be myself and face the consequences or have no fun?

I'm in my freshman year of highschool and I'm a huge Dream SMP fan and have been for about a year now. I’m not one of those annoying fans who don’t know when to quit (I don’t even have twitter LOL), but rather a respectful stan who enjoys the content thoroughly. The Dream SMP and videos made by its members got me through/made me happy when my grandma passed away, as well as when my parents got divorced. This halloween, my friend plans on going as GeorgeNotFound. She asked me if I wanted to go as Dream to match her. I happily accepted, because I really do want to, but after thinking about it, I have some second thoughts. I can barely wear my favorite Dream merch hoodie without getting multiple rude comments (my record minimum is 2 and my record high is 10). I resorted to the internet; should I wear the costume I really want to wear and match my friend, with the risk of getting endlessly made fun of, or potentially let down my friend and wear something that I really don’t want to.
