Just a disclaimer, but I don't want to call this love, since my topic is mostly a crush and I feel bad grouping it up actual love concerns.
Anyways.
I'm in high school, junior year, just putting that out there to give you a background of the obvious teen confusion and problems in this setting. That aside, there's this girl I like (of course). Now, rather than give you my terrible, jumbled attempt at our background, I'll work in bullet points.
-I like her, a lot. It's gotten to the point where it's sorta bugging me constantly.
-We've know each other for several years, and we're kinda similar (love reading, laugh at the same stuff, share similar sports/classes) so we're pretty good friends. We talk a bit at the least every day, though that's not an indicator of anything as far as I'm concerned.
-I'm definitely not the best-looking kid on the block. Chalk that up to my shortness, classic lack of self-confidence, my race or whatever, I'm not sure. Really, the only thing I've got going for me is I have no acne or terrible facial hair.
-The girl in question doesn't have much of a hat in the dating ring, besides a one-date boyfriend in our freshman year. She did, however, have this crush on one of our friends the next year, and I'm really not sure if she's over it. He's just a great guy overall, and when I asked another friend to compare us, the only thing he could come up with in my defense was "he's taken".
And that's the background. Now I'd be content to wallow in the classic teen misery, but something changed my mind recently.
So basically, through a lot of balls, help from friends, and more balls, I asked her out to our school's homecoming, and she said yes. (If you're unfamiliar with Homecoming, it's basically where you can couple up and watch a football game, sometimes followed by a dance.) I'm sure this also wasn't some pity-date either - she'd turned down a guy last year and she really didn't show any gripes with going with me. We had a decent time, too, you know, not awkward, smiled and laughed a lot, watched fireworks together, etc. It really rekindled some hope that I could make a move.
Now, the question is: Do you think she likes me enough for me to make some sort of move in the foreseeable future? I don't want to read into this too much, since it's just Homecoming, after all, and that other guy is still out there with his d**n handsome taken face, but my time with her isn't getting any longer.
