She has no duty to you, because she is neither your servant or your property. You really need to get your head around that.
If you are capable of lowering your expectations and dropping some of your assumptions about her, then I see no reason why you cannot be friends. That is, you can be friends with who she is, not friends with who you think she ought to be.
You'd be a fool to cancel your New Zealand trip for ... well, for what, exactly? Nothing wrong with sisters. Makes a lot of sense, doesn't it?
