Help with an employee who I can't stand?
My name is Jose I will call the employee I cannot stand James.
I am the definition of frustrated. I am a manager at a company which it is extremely extremely extremely hard to fire people.
I have an employee named james who is the definition of phenomenal at his job job but he is a rotten person. it seems like he knows just what to do to push my buttons but he does so in a way within the system which drives me crazy.
Case in point, james reported an employee who didn't like him so she chose to ignore his work-related request. When he brought it up to me that she was ignoring him, I told him that I didn't feel comfortable approaching her and twisting her arm. I told him to ignore it. After that he called corporate on me and they said that my behavior was unprofessional. the next day I told him that I thought he was a phenomenal employee and I tried to shake his hand and he said he didn't feel comfortable touching me. After that he called corporate again and said that he didn't do anything wrong because I told an employee she didn't have to talk to him, he certainly did not have to touch me. James made a big deal about it saying that if he didn't feel comfortable touching me he shouldn't have to come especially because the company would never make a female employee touch a male manager.
Next I tried to hold james accountable for food that was not being rotated in the freezer, but he turned it around on me saying that on days where he has 14 hours of freight..according to system logs which are set by corporate, he only has seven and a half hours to work it in. He made the claim that he is understaffed and corporate agreed then he should have extra help at all times.
I tried joking with him making Canadian jokes, (he is from Canada but we live in the u.s).. he sounded defensive and hold corporate and also reported that I was making anti Mexican jokes ( I'm Mexican btw)
also, james reported that another employee was bullying him, but I thought it was best to just let it go so I didn't do anything about it.
now every day I come in at work and there's a new complaint with corporate about me, but it is done anonymously so he reports me for stuff said out of context but I can't do anything about it because it's anonymous.
It's almost impossible for employees to lose their job on my business, but it is very possible for me to lose my job as a manager.
it seems like he knows exactly what he is doing, because again he is phenomenal at his job but he provokes me in subtle and passive ways I don't know what to do
