Friendship - even online - is about more than 'liking'someone, however nice they may be. It's about trust, respect, loyalty. You clearly have respect issues about this person, whose values are at odds with yours. You clearly also don't trust this person.
"they hated dry replies. I understand that but it felt a little bit like a personal attack because they'd told me in the past my replies were dry" - this sounds manipulative; trying to get you to change your ways.
So if there isn't friendship - except on the most superficial level - how would you treat their behaviour?
You need to think about it. But bearing in mind that online you only have their word for who they are, if it were me I'd block. Hard and fast, no explanations.
